Webster University Tashkent Appoints Prof. Dr. Jean Paul van Marissing as New Rector

Prof. Dr. Jean Paul van Marissing

Webster University Tashkent is proud to announce the appointment of Prof. Dr. Jean Paul van Marissing as its Rector, effective Oct. 29, 2025.

Van Marissing brings over 15 years of distinguished leadership within Webster University’s global network, having served as Rector at Webster Leiden in the Netherlands and Webster Tbilisi in Georgia. His extensive background in international law, higher education and institutional development makes him exceptionally well-suited to lead Webster University Tashkent into its next phase of growth and innovation.

“Prof. Dr. van Marissing is our longest-serving rector of an international campus,” said Dr. Ryan Guffey, Executive Vice President for Webster International. “Over his accomplished career, he has demonstrated the know-how and desire to develop people and locations. I am confident his experience will contribute greatly to Webster University Tashkent.”

In his remarks, van Marissing expressed enthusiasm for the opportunities ahead, “Webster University Tashkent is in a tremendous position to leverage its geography, rich history and highly skilled talent. I am excited to contribute to our collective mission, which is to give students the opportunities to grow and thrive in an evolving and interconnected world.”

Prior to joining Webster University, van Marissing spent 15 years as a competition lawyer with Baker McKenzie and served as a representative of the Dutch government to the European Union in Brussels. He holds a PhD in European Law from Leiden University, a master’s in International Law from the University of Tilburg, and has completed Executive Leadership and Strategy programs at the Kellogg School of Management in Chicago. Since 2005, he has also been a Professor at Nyenrode Business Universiteit in the Netherlands.
