April 15, 2025
TASHKENT, Uzbekistan — In a powerful demonstration of international academic collaboration, a senior delegation from Webster University’s main campus in the United States and its campus in Switzerland, visited Uzbekistan, reaffirming the University’s commitment to its strategic development in the region. The delegation was led by Chancellor Tim Keane and Executive Vice President Ryan Guffey.
The visit underscored Webster University in Tashkent’s rapid growth and its evolving role as a hub of American-style education in Central Asia. During their stay, the leadership team engaged in a series of dynamic discussions, interactive sessions with students and strategic meetings with institutional and governmental partners — all designed to further advance Webster’s partnerships in Uzbekistan
Deepening Academic Engagement
The focus of the visit was to enhance student development through the expansion of academic offerings and co-curricular experiences. The delegation met with faculty and staff to discuss current priorities and future directions for Webster Tashkent. Through open dialogue and strategic workshops, they emphasized the University’s ongoing mission to deliver globally relevant, innovative education tailored to the needs of Uzbekistan’s and future leaders.
In a particularly memorable moment, the delegation sat down with members of the Student Government Association (SGA) for a candid conversation over lunch. This interaction highlighted the importance Webster places on student leadership and involvement, and the value of a supportive learn-centric environment.
Building Diplomatic and Institutional Bridges
The delegation met with the U.S. Embassy in Uzbekistan and participated in a panel discussion hosted by the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham), strengthening diplomatic and business ties that support the university’s integrated global learning ecosystem.
Key meetings were also held with the Ministry of Higher Education and the rectors of fellow universities in Uzbekistan — reflecting Webster’s active collaboration with national education leaders to align its academic offerings with national priorities and regional development goals.
Expanding Presence Across Regions
The visit extended to Samarkand, where the delegation engaged with leadership at several major academic institutions, including the Samarkand State Institute of Foreign Languages and Samarkand State Medical University. These meetings opened doors to future academic collaborations and exchange opportunities, further reinforcing Webster’s position as a trusted global institution with deep roots in local communities.
A cultural tour of Samarkand gave the delegation firsthand appreciation of the region’s historical significance and growing center for international education.
Investing in the Future
Throughout the visit, the message was clear: Webster University is expanding its footprint in Uzbekistan, and it is doing so with purpose, vision and an unwavering commitment to academic excellence, innovation and global connectivity.
“This visit reaffirmed our belief in the extraordinary potential of Webster University in Tashkent,” Keane said. “We are proud of the progress made so far and even more excited about what lies ahead.”
As Webster continues to grow in Uzbekistan, the support and presence of its global leadership ensure that its path forward is not only strategic, but deeply rooted in the values of inclusivity, collaboration and excellence that define the Webster experience worldwide.
